1976 LETTER FROM DAD- FRESHMAN IN COLLEGE</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">Up in my closet, inside of a worn shoe box are packed many letters from my College years. Most are postmarked from my High School Friends. Those I left in order to venture 800 miles away to attend College.... far from my small hometown. There are also some letters from my Sweet Mom and Older Sister and Brother, who pretty much HUNG THE MOON for me in those days. (no pun intended...wink). But inside that box, is one single letter that I Cherish and Hold very Close to my Heart. This is a Letter from my Dad. My father was very Kind, Loving and Affectionate, but did not make a practice of taking Pen in Hand to write down his thoughts to his youngest child or any of his children for that matter. I am so glad when I attended College, there were no Smart Phones, Texts and Emails. Rather, I have a box full of wonderful letters, that I can Read, Touch and even Smell. I am so incredibly Thankful to have this short cherished letter from my Father all those years ago. Each year on the Anniversary of the day of his Birth and also the day of his Passing, I take the letter out and read it ever so slowly. I am very lucky to be reminded of how special my father was and how incredibly lucky I was to be his daughter. Inside of this old and worn shoe box are letters on which most of the Envelopes are written the words...WRITE SOON.</span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">By using Two Rubbermoon Design Stamps, I was able to turn my ordinary Saturday Night Doodle into a HIPSTER Mid-Century Coffee Pot and Cups. I placed the <a href="http://rubbermoon.com/search?x=0&y=0&q=ufo">UFO</a> Stamp in the middle of the Coffee Pot and used the <a href="http://rubbermoon.com/search?x=0&y=0&q=burst">BURST</a> Stamp on each of the Cups to create a Doodle that takes me back to the days of growing up in a late 60's and early 70's kitchen filled with colors of Harvest Gold and Avocado Green. So obviously, that was the colors I used from my set of Derwent Intense Color Pencils to give the doodle the feel of a more GROOVY time! Something So simple, as two very cool Rubbermoon Stamps completely changed the look of my drawing. </span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">My final post for the Holiday Season is one that I absolutely LOVED creating. Anytime I am able to use Old Text in one of my projects, it makes me Smile! The Little Party Hat Snowman <a href="http://www.rubbermoon.com/">Rubbermoon Stamp</a> is one of my very FAVORITES, and I will list him below along with the other 3 stamps I used for this little Winter Sample.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;"> (1) <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/111430694/party-hat-snowman-wood-mounted-rubber?ref=shop_home_active">Party Hat Snowman</a></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;"> (2) Moon Unit (house) db4040m</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;"> (3) Tree With Lights db2590e</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;"> (4) Small Xmas Tree mk363c</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">I applied the large Moon Unit House stamp onto Text from an Old Book, then cut out with Scissors including the Door and Windows. Cool Journal Paper was used as the Door and Window Coverings to add Personality to the Holiday House. Even though I used these particular Christmas/Winter Stamps in the Window and on the side of the House..... You can use any Number of different Stamps to create your own theme throughout the year. After applying the Stamps, I added color with Derwent Intense Pencils. Drawing Holly onto the Door added a festive element. After glueing the Holiday House and the Tree With Lights Stamp to the Gesso Covered Wooden Block, I used a White Water Based Sharpie Marker to make tiny stars in the sky. I hope you enjoy this fun project.</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">I purchased this pretty cool Frida Necklace at a gift store while visiting Whidbey Island this past September. When I arrived home with it, I felt the larger flat piece needed some sort of Design Element. So I then decided to grab a <a href="http://www.rubbermoon.com/">Rubbermoon Stamp</a> and tore some text from an old book. I vertically pasted the old text onto the long piece. Using the "Mod Marks Dark kp5098c" stamp from The KRE 8 TIV ELEMENTS/ Mid Century Modern Designs, I applied it over the old text. For the last step, I used Acrylic Paint to "Antique" the edges of the paper for a more "Vintage" look. This is how the necklace looks now....<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

Only twenty-two when he died, Dan had already achieved prominence for his work as a war photographer. But his photographs told only half the story. The other half lay hidden away in seventeen black-bound journals filled with collages, drawings, writings, and photographs."</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: large;"> Dan's actual journals have been on exhibit throughout the world. I seem to do better with images rather than words, so I concentrate on making collages out of travel photos. I love to make Polaroid Transfers and design papers for the inside of my journal covers. The paper pictured above is one that I designed using copies of the unused portion of the Polaroid Transfers(the part you usually throw away). I then assemble the photos into grids and shrink them down to tiny size, just suitable for the journals. This is my personal favorite, because it reminds me of so many fun trips.</span>Barb Rogershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15052490434602442202noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8508417783573408028.post-1189786302773812442012-01-21T14:55:00.000-08:002012-01-23T11:43:49.050-08:00MY LOVE FOR JOURNALS<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSBLhfaI7Nct1MKEFVgPMwwrstjFCkciDRP0UJxYoljIRS7nSQA3ntaBl0THXqA2yzHXLdlG3YUm17_WbmT8wEqzHWNxAaVWhaUWnrUdWbobIiCy-0MoTXi9wPGm9N5v4o14TtyL2SHN8/s1600/P1210136.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSBLhfaI7Nct1MKEFVgPMwwrstjFCkciDRP0UJxYoljIRS7nSQA3ntaBl0THXqA2yzHXLdlG3YUm17_WbmT8wEqzHWNxAaVWhaUWnrUdWbobIiCy-0MoTXi9wPGm9N5v4o14TtyL2SHN8/s640/P1210136.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2JblZ9h0pA17nglUpm5VNqXg1SQIexU0IOngFqzs1624PiB_D2UBwCzwPt3CxpjgUCl8X4mY_XKKezt10WxzF4hh126jRguDb8Edci-d5bJQtDsUX21gH3RDrmSYTD4xk3VJvr6NBE8c/s1600/P1210138.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="464" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2JblZ9h0pA17nglUpm5VNqXg1SQIexU0IOngFqzs1624PiB_D2UBwCzwPt3CxpjgUCl8X4mY_XKKezt10WxzF4hh126jRguDb8Edci-d5bJQtDsUX21gH3RDrmSYTD4xk3VJvr6NBE8c/s640/P1210138.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: large;">Several years ago I was introduced to the art of making journals by a good friend, Professor Jo VanArkel. It was an experience that affected me both personally and artistically. Until then, I had't realized how someone could actually develop a passion for creativity. I hadn't realized, it was possible to begin making a journal early in the evening, and the time pass quickly far into the early morning hours before deciding to take a break. I hadn't realized, I would receive such a sense of accomplishment from making something that someone else might cherish and fill the pages inside with their own life and creativity. It does seem odd in this day of Smart Phones and Ipads, that I would love such a simple leather object, in which each page would need to be hand sewn and bound....or then again is it? Thank you Jo, for such a gift.</span>Barb Rogershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15052490434602442202noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8508417783573408028.post-8705841690639416002012-01-20T20:39:00.000-08:002012-01-20T21:46:55.664-08:00Winter at the Lake<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhN19et9XQ490aVUUtsV1MUY6Zd_KVZqAk4IgHenEmqtVNvGJtLS7GAVfusf52XO9JoJnmNIzryzSMg_9cObXZri03ey8JIbRpr-8T-LKJN5w-ZGhjrYqx1iR73f-M3wb2AvBN_cFg0Do/s1600/P1060027.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhN19et9XQ490aVUUtsV1MUY6Zd_KVZqAk4IgHenEmqtVNvGJtLS7GAVfusf52XO9JoJnmNIzryzSMg_9cObXZri03ey8JIbRpr-8T-LKJN5w-ZGhjrYqx1iR73f-M3wb2AvBN_cFg0Do/s640/P1060027.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: large;">One of my favorite places to spend time is at the cabin on the lake. We pass by this wonderful view during our daily walks.Its personality changes through out the different seasons. Not sure which season I like best. Maybe you can decide through later posts. </span>Barb Rogershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15052490434602442202noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8508417783573408028.post-13308815690040948642012-01-20T19:41:00.000-08:002012-01-20T22:17:19.767-08:00LIFE BOOK 2012<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb4BS9UsMBz4Uv2YE6PfRhdEbCZgnFRnezCsh-N4nK_mqFApcKeBgoyT1nknCh8YMAI-_ZeObHQ14ymNcFSFgoMRX0sYBGsWXnf0OqooUy5aNiYSxIuqJNIy5O43FEEARByCF6pOE64hE/s1600/IMG_3133.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb4BS9UsMBz4Uv2YE6PfRhdEbCZgnFRnezCsh-N4nK_mqFApcKeBgoyT1nknCh8YMAI-_ZeObHQ14ymNcFSFgoMRX0sYBGsWXnf0OqooUy5aNiYSxIuqJNIy5O43FEEARByCF6pOE64hE/s640/IMG_3133.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: large;">Stepping out of my comfort zone and participating in a year long art class called "Life Book 2012". The class will be taught by several internationally known artists from all parts of the world. The original lesson was my first attempt at portraiture. At the end of the year, I and hundreds of other students from pretty much everywhere, will assemble all the art and create our own Life Book. I'll keep you posted on the year's journey ahead. </span>Barb Rogershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15052490434602442202noreply@blogger.com4
